CALL FOR PAPERS

COMBINATORIAL CHEMISTRY: SAFETY & HEALTH OUTLOOK

The Division of Chemical Health and Safety of the American Chemical Society announces a major symposium devoted to the safety and health issues of the rapidly expanding field of COMBINATORIAL CHEMISTRY. The symposium, part of the 254th national meeting of the ACS is in San Diego, April 1 - 5, 2001.

Papers are called for in any area related to safety or health of combinatorial chemistry. Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to:

Instrumentation and Processes: Papers should address engineering designed into instrumentation and laboratory or pilot plant processes designed to reduce recognizable hazards or human exposure. These may include ventilation, monitors and sensors, interlocks or other control systems. Instrument manufacturers are particularly invited to discuss the safety engineering in one or more of their devices.

Chemical Manipulations: Papers are invited which address special safety considerations related to the manipulation of large numbers of tiny reaction vessels, large volumes of reagents or solvents in many small containers, or handling large volumes of wastes. Safety considerations can include chemical, ergonomic, mechanical or physical hazards. Methods of risk reduction are of particular interest.

Lessons Learned: Papers are invited which report incidents and misses which have occurred related to Combinatorial Chemistry projects.
